For over 20 years, I have taught piano to students of all ages and ability levels in my own independent piano studio in Boston and Chicago. I've also held piano faculty positions at a few different music schools including the Old Town School of Folk Music for 5 years, and the British School of Chicago where for a decade I was both a piano instructor and head of music theory. While the majority of my students have been between the ages of 6-18, and I have specialized in the beginner through late intermediate level, I have also taught adults and seniors who are both first time piano learners, and those returning to the instrument after having studied in their childhood years.

My pedagogical approach prioritizes musical literacy, while also working to support and train the ear. I want to instill and foster a joy and interest of music that will permeate other areas of my students' lives. I want to help my students learn skills and build a confidence that will ultimately lead them to independent learning, so they may continue to learn, improve, listen and play even when they've ceased taking formal lessons.

Each year, I carefully organize and prepare my students for annual recitals. Recitals are an important way of reaching a higher performance level than can be attained in weekly lessons. Recital preparation is critical, and I take it quite seriously as I want my students to feel confident, prepared, and proud of their performances. It is important to me that these are positive experiences for my students, and that they are excited to play for the group. Recitals are also a wonderful way for students to connect with each other, to demonstrate their work, and for families of young students to meet each other. Everyone can cheer on the work and dedication that goes into learning to play the piano.
