I am happiest and most intellectually stimulated when teaching, interacting with students in individual and group settings (undergraduates and graduates alike), and sharing concepts, philosophies, new ideas and techniques. My academic career began in 2005 when I started teaching musicianship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since then, I have held faculty positions at DePaul, Roosevelt, and Northwestern Universities teaching composition, theory, ear training and an array of non-major courses. In 2016, I served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Composition at the University of Iowa, filling in for senior composer Lawrence Fritts by teaching his PhD and Masters composition students. At Roosevelt, I taught both the required history sequence for music majors, and self-devised graduate music seminars, for which I created the following composition/analysis courses: “The Music of George Crumb,” “Extended Instrumental Techniques,” “The New York School of Composers” and “Notation and Meaning.”
